Aikido is a Budo (martial art) created by Morihei Ueshiba. After the Founder's passing in 1969, his son Kisshomaru Ueshiba was inaugurated as Aikido Doshu. At present, Moriteru Ueshiba, grandson of the Founder, has succeeded his father as Aikido Doshu.
The Aikikai Foundation, officially recognized by the Japanese government in 1940, was founded in order to preserve and promote the ideals of the true Aikido created by the Founder. As the Aikido World Headquarters, it is the parent organization for the development and expansion of Aikido throughout the world.

Suginami Aikikai (Aikido Club) was established in April, 1987 under the leadership of Shihan Hiroshi Kato, 8th dan, a student of the Founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba.

Kato sensei is widely admired as an Aikidoist not only in Japan but also abroad, and there are affiliated dojos in San Francisco, Danville, Palo Alto, Santa Clara, and San Jose, CA. There are also affiliated dojos in Houston, Corpus Christi, Midland, San Antonio, and San Angelo, Texas.

Practice at Suginami Aikikai includes training with the bokken (wooden sword) and jo (staff). The training place is Ogikubo Taiikukan at 3-47-2, Ogikubo, Suginamiku. Go east from the JR station's south entrance and you can reach it within 6-7 minutes by walking.

This dojo is a satellite dojo of the Shudokan School of Aikido in Houston,Tx. The dojo cho is Michael Wise Sensei and the Instructor is Jorge Garcia Sensei, 3rd dan. This dojo is located on the border of West Houston/Katy,Tx. This dojo is a member of the Shudokan Aikido Association.

Aikido Dojo in Corpus Christi, Texas affiliated with Shihan Hiroshi Kato. The Dojo instructor is Sensei Joel Molina. This dojo is a member of the Shudokan Aikido Association.

A dojo in San Antonio, Texas run by Joe Rangel, 2nd dan. This dojo is a member of the Shudokan Aikido Association.

A dojo in West Texas founded by Dr. John Riggs, 4th dan, a student of Hiroshi Kato Shihan. Aikido of Midland is a member of the Shudokan Aikido Association. Dr. Riggs is also Vice President and Technical Director of the SAA.

A dojo headed by Randy Shupe Sensei in San Angelo, Texas. This dojo is a member of the Shudokan Aikido Association and is an associate SAA dojo under Aikido of Midland.

This is a mixed martial arts dojo which has a core group of practitioners who have dedicated themselves to learning Aikikai Aikido under Hiroshi Kato Shihan. They have formed a study group for Aikido and Rick Torres is the contact person. They are supervised by Jorge Garcia, 3rd dan and are considered to be a satellite of the Shudokan School of Aikido in the Shudokan Aikido Association.

This is a large and well established dojo in the city of San Francisco led by Sensei Jimmy Friedman, a student of Shihan Hiroshi Kato, 8th dan

Since 1987 the Dojo has hosted many of the worlds highest ranking Aikido instructors, such as Kato Sensei, Nishio Sensei, Anno Sensei, Sugawara Sensei, Terry Dobson Sensei, and Cottier Sensei to name a few.

Aikido ITP is located at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, California and is headed up by Robert Frager, 7th dan, a student of O Sensei in the 1960's who now trains with Hiroshi Kato Sensei. Sue Ann McKean, 5th dan also instructs there and she is a student of Hiroshi Kato as well.

Aiki Extensions, Inc. was established in September, 1998 to support and bring together those who apply the principles of the Japanese martial art of Aikido in a socially constructive way.
Aiki Extensions seeks to: strengthen existing efforts by constructing networks, enhancing communications, and providing resources; extend those new efforts to new sites, situations, and areas of application; deepen the philosophical and pedagogical foundations of aikido as a human practice.
